Energy Healing

Energy healing is a holistic practice that taps into the body's subtle energy systems to remove blocks, stimulating the body's inherent ability to heal itself. At the heart of energy healing lies the concept that humans are essentially fields of energy that interact continuously with the environment and others. The philosophy behind this practice suggests that well-being stems from a harmonious energy flow within the body and its alignment with the external world.

Energy can become blocked, stagnant, depleted, or imbalanced over time, contributing to physical and mental ailments. Energy healing practitioners employ techniques such as hands-on, hands-off, and distant healing to balance an individual's energy field, thus promoting health, fostering healing and ensuring that the energy flowing throughout the body is positive, protected, and calm.

Energy healing sessions are often described as deeply relaxing and can result in improvements on physical, emotional, and spiritual levels. However, it's important to note that energy healing is not a substitute for medical treatment for serious health issues.A growing body of research suggests that energy healing can lead to benefits such as:

  • Offered as complementary treatment for acute medical and psychological care

  • Ease anxiety and reduces stress

  • Help cope with chronic pain, physical or emotional

  • Create a sense of peace and contentment

  • Reset the energetic field

  • Promote overall well-being

Energy healing as a complementary treatment for a number of physical and mental health conditions. It can help promote relaxation and stimulate healing. It's important to note that energy healing should be used as a complementary therapy and not as a replacement for traditional medical treatment. Always consult with healthcare professionals for medical conditions.

Energy healing can be used for:

  • Cancer

  • Chronic Pain

  • Depression, Anxiety, and Trauma

Most verified Complementary and Integrative Medicine institutions, including the Reiki Healing Foundation, believe that energy healing is a complementary healing method and daily spiritual practice, which should not be used as a substitute for acute medical and psychotherapeutic care.

Energy healing is offered as a complementary practice by many academic medical centers in the United States, such as Johns Hopkins and Northwestern Medicine, and is positioned with growing interest by hospitals as research continues.

The effectiveness of energy healing, especially Reiki, has been the subject of various scientific studies. One notable research, a large-scale trial involving 1,411 Reiki sessions in the U.S., reported significant improvements in several aspects of physical and psychological health. These improvements included changes in positive and negative affect, pain, and overall well-being, suggesting energy healing potential for positively impacting mental and physical health.

Other studies have further examined Reiki's benefits in specific contexts. A pilot study on patients undergoing knee replacement surgery showed that Reiki could significantly reduce pain, blood pressure, and anxiety. In a Brazilian hospital, a study on cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy revealed mixed results, with some patients reporting improved symptoms following Reiki sessions. Additionally, research has been conducted on the effects of Reiki post-Caesarean section surgery, indicating its potential benefits in various medical scenarios.

These findings, while promising, underline the need for more comprehensive research to fully understand energy healing's efficacy and mechanisms. Energy healing practices are best used as complementary therapies alongside conventional medical treatments.

There are many techniques in which energy healing can be practiced. There are a variety of energy healing methods including acupuncture, chakra balancing, healing massage, reiki, and Qigong.

Though the treatments can vary, some expectations for an energy healing session include:

  • A typical energy healing session may include the practitioner scanning the body to detect energy imbalances

  • The healer will ask the patient some questions about their needs

  • The energy healing is administered in a calm, quiet, and comfortable setting

  • Usually, energy healing entails a healer applying gentle or vibrational energetic touch to clear and cleanse the body’s energy

  • Energy healing may or may not involve physical touch

  • While practitioners sometimes use tools like crystals or pendulums, these are not essential to the practice.

  • Many energy healing practitioners can work from a distance and do not need to be in the same room

  • A typical, licensed session can range from 30 minutes to 2 hours

  • Energy healing can also take the form of a daily, personal hygiene practice to clear out any negativity or heaviness that may have been accumulated throughout the day.
